Passive practices we use in Open Awareness Yoga can be split into three categories: Restorative Yoga, Yin Yoga, and Yoga Nidra. These practices can be done on their own, or woven together with Active Yoga, Somatics, Reiki, and Tarot.
Restorative Yoga
In a restorative yoga pose, your body will be gently held in place with yoga props or common household alternatives (like blankets and pillows). Once we get you set up in a shape, you’ll typically relax into it for 5-10 minutes. We turn to restorative practices when the body is tired and your energy is drained as well as during times of increased mental and emotional turmoil.
Yin Yoga
Yin yoga is exercise for your body’s connective tissues, not your muscles. With yin practices, you’ll stay in a pose for 3-5 minutes or more, typically experience some sensation of stretch and opening, and increase your range of motion and joint hydration. It’s different from restorative yoga in intention and in the way we utilize props.
Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra is a multi-part guided relaxation and meditation practiced while lying comfortably on your back. The practice aims to bring your entire brain into consciousness while your body melts into a deep relaxation. It’s powerful practice for healing, intention setting, and stress reduction.
